8.á Special User and
Site Requirements
The goal is to provide the
appropriate accessibility solution for the user.á It is therefore important
to consider who will be using the lift and what
their special needs may be.á These should be
included in the specification.á

Lift Presence Does Not Guarantee Accessibility
Great care must be taken to specify a
lift that will be usable and dependable.á Merely having a lift present in the
stairway will not satisfy the ADA requirements. If it is difficult
to operate or is constantly broken down due to
vandalism or failure it is not an effective solution.á The lift must be designed for the
rigors of a public building location and be equipped with the
appropriate features that make it useable.
